Michigan Football: Wolverines in strong spot with 4-star OL Lucas Heyer
Michigan Football picked up a crystal ball projection on Tuesday for a four-star offensive lineman out of Minnesota in Lucas Heyer.
Offensive line recruiting for Michigan football is probably going to look a little bit different going forward with Sherrone Moore now in charge of the offensive line instead of Ed Warinner.
While Moore is obviously still settling in, he was already one of Michigan football’s top recruiters, it’s just a different focus.
But despite the switch in coaching staff, the Wolverines are starting to trend in the right direction when it comes to four-star offensive tackle Lucas Heyer, a top-300 recruit in the 247 sports composite rankings out of Minnesota.
Heyer is out of Saint Paul and is listed at 6-foot-5, 307 pounds. He’s ranked as the top recruit in the state of Minnesota in the class of 2022 and is No. 277 overall and 34th among tackles.
Last season, in high school, he was only able to play in six games but played on both sides of the ball at left tackle and defensive tackle.
A few weeks ago, he spoke with Rivals about his recruitment and said good things about Michigan football.
"“Michigan is pretty high on my list right now, for sure,” Heyer told Rivals. “As a program, Michigan just has a lot of things that appeal to a lot of kids, like the program’s tradition and the winning history,” he said. “The Big House seems awesome and I’d like to go there someday and check it out. The academics, too, are a big thing for me and will definitely play a big part in my decision.”"
As noted by Josh Helmholdt, a Midwest recruiting analyst, Heyer initiated contact with the Wolverines and received an offer back in November.
Now, Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider (subscription required) is ready to place a crystal ball projection in favor of the Wolverines.
The pick hasn’t hit Heyer’s profile yet at 247 sports but it will soon and it’s significant. If Heyer was the one who showed initial interest in Michigan, as long as Moore is reciprocating, which he obviously is, this recruitment sort of seems like a done deal.
Heyer is getting more offers and Penn State just got in the mix. Indiana and Stanford are some of the others in the mix, as well as Arizona State.
He is a strong academic kid, which is always a good thing for the Wolverines, with everything the school has to offer and Heyer would be a nice addition to the 2022 class if that prediction proves to be true.
