Michigan Football: Jalen Mayfield is trending up in NFL mock drafts
The NFL Mock Draft period is in full sway, and Jalen Mayfield is at the center of it. The Michigan football big man is trending up and could be going on night one.
The NFL’s draft guru, Todd McShay, came out with his NFL Mock Draft 2.0 on Wednesday per 247Sports, and as you could imagine, was QB heavy. The other big headline was the mention of two Michigan football frontmen being named in the first round. The two names of notice were Kwity Paye, and the before mentioned Jalen Mayfield.
McShay predicts that the New Orleans Saints could go in for Mayfield, and if that is the case, he will link up with an old teammate in Caeser Ruiz. Ruiz was taken by the Saints in the first round of last year’s draft, as the franchise has certainly looked to bolster its front line in the future. The option would give the “green” Mayfield more time to flourish and thrive.
Going back a few months to the middle of 2020, Jalen Mayfield was on the cusp of sitting out the season. He inevitably decided to return once the University of Michigan and the Big Ten came out with an all-conference schedule.
His 2020 campaign was plagued with injury, leaving the lineman playing 18 games in his Wolverine career.

Inexperienced and under accomplished maybe the narrative surrounding the 2019 All-Big Ten Honorable mention, which is why a move to The Big Easy makes complete sense.
The Saints have a solid starting core now, but in a few years, free agency could take its toll.
With that in mind, and the question of who will be under center from now on does make this pick and the potential of Jalen going here as up in the air as anything else Michigan related at the moment. New Orleans will be looking to boost their run game if Brees leaves, and Mayfield could be the plug to open the holes as we advance into the next decade.
