Michigan football seems to have a new top target emerging on the quarterback board for the class of 2022.

Quarterback recruiting hasn’t really gone that well for Michigan football in the class of 2022 and with some of the previous top targets making decisions or trending to other schools, the Wolverines needed a reset of the board which seemed to come a couple of weeks ago.

Holden Geriner and Nicco Marchiol were two seemingly realistic targets for Michigan football at the position in 2022, but they are committed to Auburn and Florida State respectively and Maalik Murphy, a five-star QB from California just got a crystal ball to Texas.

While the Wolverines were once thought to be a contender for Murphy, if he does start really trending to Texas, that could help with U-M with the recruitment of four-star dual-threat quarterback Cade Klubnik out of Austin, Texas.

Klubnik was recently offered by the Wolverines and the four-star recruit is ranked as the No. 6 dual-threat QB in the nation in 2022, as well as the No. 155 prospect overall.

He’s nearly 6-foot-3 and listed at 178 pounds and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis has been in touch and so far, it sounds like the QB is warming up to the Wolverines.

Obviously, with Jim Harbaugh coaching quarterbacks now, you would expect him to get more heavily involved in this recruitment too.

Michigan football has other offers out there and another quarterback to watch is Ohio three-star passer Drew Allar. He was also recently offered by the Wolverines.

Things can change and there is certainly a long way to go in the 2022 recruiting class, but it wouldn’t be shocking if Klubnik became a top priority in this class at the position. Allar is another guy who could end up as a top target for the staff.

Wolverines add a PWO at QB in 2021

In other quarterback news, Michigan football added a second arm in the class of 2021 Thursday as Davis Warren, an unranked passer, has committed as a preferred walk-on.

Warren spent the last two years playing in Connecticut and is originally out of Los Angeles. All in all, he’s 6-foot-2, 185 pounds and if there is something worth developing, it’s not a bad move.

Five-quarterback J.J. McCarthy is obviously the future, but there could be some departures and you never know, that preferred walk-on could come in handy down the road.
