Former Michigan basketball player and Fab Five member Chris Webber was set to visit the Wolverines at one of their basketball practices before their two-week pause according to a new interview with Webber done with WXYZ Detroit’s Brad Galli.

It’s significant news for fans of Michigan basketball program, who can remember the days when Howard played for the Wolverines instead of being the head coach.

Howard was part of the Fab Five along with Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. Of course, a lot has happened since Juwan and his teammates took the college hoops world by storm by leading Michigan to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 1992 and 1993.

But due to a number of allegations of misconduct, the banners won by those teams were taken down and Webber was given a 10-year disassociation from the program.

Back in 2013, when Michigan basketball reached the national title game for the first time since 1993, Howard and Webber were among those who attended the game against Louisville.

When he was named head coach in May of 2019, Howard talked about bringing the Fab Five back in the fold and leading up to the hiring of Juwan, Webber was a staunch proponent of Howard getting the job.

That’s what makes the news about Webber attending a practice such a big deal. He did attend a Michigan football game back in 2018 and was invited by head coach Jim Harbaugh, but he hasn’t officially returned to a basketball function and now that will be delayed.

"“I’ll tell you this, I was going to go to a practice until what happened recently,” Webber told WXYZ Galli. “I called Juwan, and I was planning on it.” He (Howard) recruited all of us. He’s the reason why I went to Michigan along with Ray and Jimmy and Jalen. He was the catalyst. He’s been a great teammate and a great friend. I wanted to support him in this and I love the University of Michigan.”"

It’s a bummer that this didn’t work out but it sounds like something will be happening with C-Webb soon enough, which is good to see because he’s still one of, is not the greatest Wolverine of all time.

In the full interview, Webber talks about still following the team and liking the play of big guys like Hunter Dickinson, which isn’t a surprise since he was a dominant big man back in his day.

It might seem like a small thing but it’s a wound that needs to heal and whenever Webber is able to visit practice, it will be another positive step in that direction.
