For the second time this season, Michigan basketball knocked off the Maryland Terrapins in dominant fashion and here’s three things we learned.

The Michigan basketball team was on Maryland right from the start Tuesday night and the Wolverines were out to make a point.

You could tell the loss to Minnesota didn’t sit well with the Wolverines and they responded with an impressive 24-point win, a win that they didn’t trail for a single second.

Hunter Dickinson only scored three points, but his teammates knocked down 12 3-pointers, so it didn’t really matter that he wasn’t able to get it going inside and looking back at the victory for Michigan basketball, here are three things we learned.

The defense proves its still elite

A lot of people will want to talk about the way Michigan shot the basketball and rightfully so, but more than anything, the Wolverines won this game with defense.

Maryland is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country and made 13 in the previous matchup. Tuesday night, it made just four from downtown and attempted just 19.

Just as Maryland adjusted and took away Dickinson, the Wolverines forced Maryland into more 2-point shots and did a better job of closing out, even on the big guys.

The length of the Wolverines has been an issue all year and against Maryland, the Terps were one-and-done on just about every possession. Maryland grabbed just three offensive rebounds and only forced nine turnovers.

Dickinson didn’t have a huge game on offense, although his presence created a bunch of shots, but Maryland only scored .78 points per possession when he was on the floor defensively and that was lowest number of any Michigan starter.

For the game, Maryland scored just .88 points per possession, which shows just how good this defense was last night.
