Michigan Football season probably over after Iowa canceled
Although there could possibly be a bowl game, it seems like after the Iowa game was canceled, the Michigan football season will come to an end.
It seems like we have seen Michigan football take the field for the final time in 2020 after it was announced that the game against Iowa was canceled.
Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported that the game was being canceled, which is something Chris Balas of Rivals hinted at earlier Tuesday.
Thamel also noted that Michigan’s season is over, which isn’t clear if that means the regular season or a bowl game, but it would leave U-M at 2-4.
We’ll see what happens in terms of a bowl game, but with all the cancellations, it doesn’t seem like Michigan football should get a shot at the postseason. Not as many teams are going to and there are quite a few in the Big Ten alone that are more deserving.
Honestly, it would be good to play a game bowl game, simply because this is a young team and it could use the practice time, but there is something to be said about hitting the refresh button.
A bowl trip would just delay the decision-making process even more and even if Jim Harbaugh stays, which it seems like he will at this point, there need to be major changes made.
It seems very likely that defensive coordinator Don Brown won’t be brought back and there have been rumors about other assistants as well, including offensive coordinator Josh Gattis.
But when you don’t even know if the head coach is going to be back, nothing is really certain and that’s where things stand right now.
While it’s a bummer to not see the Wolverines play again, this team would have had a tough time against Iowa Saturday night. Not only is Iowa on a six-game winning streak, but the Wolverines could have been down a bunch of players too, so this is probably a good thing.
Now, maybe Harbaugh and Warde Manuel can sit down and figure this thing out. Harbaugh has told recruits he wants to be at Michigan and it sounds like the Wolverines have offered an extension or will at a lower salary.
Whether Harbaugh wants to take that or not is up to him, but this program needs some stability at head coach soon and if Jim wants to stay and turn things around, let the work begin.
