Hunter Dickinson: A-

It’s hard to find much to critique about Dickinson’s performance against Ball State as he scored 12 points and grabbed 11 boards in 21 minutes. He blocked a shot and only committed two fouls. He didn’t shoot the ball as well, especially at the free throw line, which dropped his grade slightly, but it’s clear as we’ve said over and over again — he needs to be in the starting lineup.

Austin Davis: B

The reason Dickinson should start is more about him than it is about Davis. Dickinson is scoring 14 points a game and averaging 7.7 rebounds, while shooting 62 percent from the field. Davis has his role and off the bench he can be very effective. He made all three of his shots last night and grabbed three boards in 13 minutes. However, his defensive limitations are very real and that’s just another reason why he should be part of the second unit.

Brandon Johns: C+

It’s hard to grade Johns because he gave some strong minutes to Michigan basketball in the first half and then didn’t see the floor again until late in the game. He took two shots and missed both but grabbed five rebounds in nine minutes. To be honest, he needs more minutes at the five and is one of Michigan’s best rebounders. He’s second on the team in offensive rebounds despite just over 12 minutes a game. Out of Davis and Johns, Brandon should be getting double-digit minutes.

Terrance Williams: C-

Williams played 10 minutes but didn’t score and only grabbed a couple of rebounds. He does a solid job defensively, rebounds well and hustles. Plus, he’s a smart player and as the ninth-man in the rotation, his versatility comes in handy as we saw vs Oakland. He seems more ready to contribute than Jackson right now but he’s struggled to shoot in two straight games.
