Starter: Franz Wagner

This is a pretty obvious one right? Franz Wagner will be Michigan’s starter on the wing this season. I could write an entire article about how high my expectations are for Wagner in 2020-21. If you’re reading this, prepare for a monster season from the sophomore.

Franz Wagner is healthy now, he’s stronger now, and he’s taller. At the end of last season, it was clear Wagner was Michigan’s best offensive player. That will still be the case this season.

Wagner gets to the basket with ease. When he gets into the lane with a smaller defender on him, he has a few quick post moves where he can efficiently finish over his defender. If Wagner can knock down the three ball this season, his game will be close to unstoppable.

Michigan basketball has not had an 18 PPG scorer since Trey Burke in 2012-13. I think Wagner will flirt with that number. Without a proven big man or point guard to run this offense through, Franz is going to be the guy.

Livers will also see some time here when Franz needs a break. Same with Chaundee Brown and true freshman Terrance Williams.

The coaches are very high on Williams. He’s an undersized wing/power forward hybrid that can really shoot the ball. But he’s also an elite rebounder for his size. Williams will see the floor this year and don’t be surprised if he turns into a key role player for this Michigan basketball team.
