Michigan Basketball: Final starting five and depth chart predictions
By Max S.
Michigan basketball kicks off their season tomorrow against the Bowling Green Falcons. After months of uncertainty, college basketball is back.
Michigan basketball comes into the new season picked to finish anywhere from 5th-7th in the Big Ten. Even though this team is bringing in four freshman and two transfers, Michigan is still very experienced and has a great balance of youth and veterans.
The Wolverines return one of the best wing duos in college hoops, Isaiah Livers and Franz Wagner. They also return seniors Eli Brooks and Austin Davis. Their bench even has some veterans on it with Brandon Johns and Adrien Nunez both going into their junior seasons looking to make an impact any way they can.
Here are the roster losses and additions from a season ago.
Losses: Xavier Simpson, Jon Teske, David DeJulius, Cole Bajema, and Colin Castleton
Additions: Hunter Dickinson, Zeb Jackson, Jace Howard, Terrance Williams, Mike Smith, and Chaundee Brown
Replacing the production of Xavier Simpson and Jon Teske won’t be easy, but I think Juwan Howard did a phenomenal job of bringing in a mix of freshman and transfers to help ease that transition.
Since the season is just days away, here is my final look at who I think will be in Michigan’s starting five and how I think the depth chart will look game one. Let’s start with the point guard spot.
Note: Michigan basketball has a few multi-positional guys so you will see some players listed at several spots. You will also see several starters listed as backups for other positions. This was a common theme last season with guys like Isaiah Livers, Brandon Johns, and Franz Wagner.
