This season has been nothing short of a disaster for Michigan football. Three straight losses. Two straight games where they didn’t even look like they belonged on the same field as their opponent.

Something has to change in Ann Arbor. Most fans are now on board with replacing Jim Harbaugh. And when those talks start to happen among Michigan football fans, a wild list of potential replacements start to develop.

There seems to be a large group of fans who like to throw out the extremely unrealistic options like Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, Lincoln Riley, and others. “Give Urban Meyer a call! It’s worth a shot!”

News flash, this guy doesn’t even like to say the name Michigan and refuses to write with a blue pen. It’s not going to happen. Clemson and Oklahoma are both better jobs than Michigan right now by far so those make no sense either.

Another name that is being thrown out there is Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell. It’s undeniable how good he has been over the last few seasons. But you need to understand a few things about Fickell. He played at Ohio State. He graduated from Ohio State. He coached at Ohio State for 14 seasons. He coaches with a buckeye in his pocket for good luck.

This isn’t a Bo Schembechler type of situation. After speaking to a few people, I don’t see a scenario where this is a realistic hire for Michigan football. Luke Fickell will have every school with a head coaching vacancy calling and wouldn’t seriously consider Michigan football in my opinion.

There are several other candidates that I have heard Michigan fans mention. But that’s not what I am going to be talking about in this piece. My top realistic option for Michigan football is Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.

A lot of people will spend five minutes on google and see his record in previous seasons and immediately jump to an unfair conclusion.

Since I know a lot of you don’t want to spend the time to do thorough research, I did it for you and compiled those facts in this article to explain why he’d be a phenomenal hire for Michigan football.
