4. They still think they are an elite team

Michigan football is a household name when it comes to college football. It has the most wins in college football history and one of the best winning percentages. But they haven’t even won a share of the conference title since 2004.

For a team that used to be one of the dominant teams in the Big Ten that is a long time. Yes they are in the tougher division in the Big Ten, but still how has it been 16 years since they have won a conference title.

It has been since 1997 since they won a national title and they haven’t been close since. Harbaugh did have them on the edge of making the playoffs a time or two, but never really challenged it.

But even with all of that, they still walk around like they are an elite program. It kind of goes back to the stubbornness of the coaches. They are unwilling to change and just think the name itself will make things happen.

If you haven’t noticed Ohio State is light years ahead of the Wolverines and Wisconsin has definitely passed them also. Penn State is struggling but they have been better and Indiana is even an up and coming team.

Michigan football needs to quit thinking its above everybody else and get a chip on its shoulder and prove that it can get back there. Go after recruits differently, play the game differently, and take offense to anyone that is calling you out.

Michigan is a middle of the pack Big Ten team right now, but that can change. In order for it to change, though, the Wolverines need to realize where they are. If they don’t do that then it will be more of the same.

Can Harbaugh do any of this? That’s a big question. His time may be done. But this is still a high profile job that can get a great coach to take over. Getting Michigan back on the map is a dream opportunity for a lot of coaches and it’s possible but they have to change the mindset in Ann Arbor first.
