Michigan basketball landed another five-star recruit on Monday with the surprise commitment of Moussa Diabate and here are three takeaways.

Michigan basketball‘s 2021 recruiting class was already looking epic and then Monday, Juwan Howard nabbed his second five-star recruit in less than two weeks, thanks to the commitment of Moussa Diabate.

Diabate is a 6-foot-9 big man who will play the four and the five for Michigan basketball. He’s ranked 20th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings.

He didn’t talk much during his recruiting process and never even released a cut list. He didn’t even have any crystal ball projections when he suddenly announced his commitment to Michigan.

It was a surprise to just about everyone, except Howard, who knew it was coming.

Diabate plays at IMG Academy, which is where Jett Howard, Juwan’s son plays and that’s been a factor in some of these recruitments. But make no mistake, Juwan has been putting in the leg work and it paid off in a big way with Diabate, a legit one-and-one prospect.

Not only is Diabate incredibly talented, he also fills the biggest need left for Michigan basketball in its 2021 class and that’s rim protecting. The newest Wolverine commit is a freak athlete and an elite defender.

However, he can do much more than just defend. He’s an exceptional rebounder and he can also create offense too. Of all of the recruits in the 2021 class, he could have the most upside and that’s where we begin with our takeaways from his commitment.
