The Michigan football team has looked mediocre for the last two weeks. Could this be the end of the Jim Harbaugh era and if it is who could replace him?

Six years ago the Michigan football team fired Brady Hoke and brought in Jim Harbaugh to be the next head coach. He was fresh off a Super Bowl appearance in San Francisco but had seemed to have worn out his welcome there.

Even with him looking to move on it was somewhat of a shock that he came back to the college game after success in the NFL.

But with his return to Ann Arbor, it was thought that the Wolverines would be back competing for Big Ten championships. Well, we are in year six and he has yet to get the Wolverines a Big Ten title let alone to the championship game.

He has been great at beating teams Michigan football should beat, but it is a completely different story when it comes to their rivals.

Harbaugh has failed to beat Ohio State, although one of those games turned a very questionable call. He has also struggled to beat Michigan State, highlighted (or maybe it’s lowlighted) by the loss two weeks ago to a bad Spartans team.

Michigan football fans have been wondering if he is the guy now, and by the way, Michigan has shown up (or lack thereof) in their last two games as the yells have gotten louder. So is it time for Harbaugh to go?

It truly is a tough question and one you could argue either way. If I had to guess I would say Harbaugh will take a job in the NFL next year because some team will come calling. It gives him a way to save face and get back into the league. It also would keep Michigan from having to fire him.

So if Harbaugh leaves who could replace him? Michigan is still a high profile job and it would have a ton of coaches very interested in taking the job, but who would be the right fit.

Do they continue to look for a “Michigan Man” to lead the program or will they stray from that thinking?

We take a look at some different possibilities and directions the Wolverines could go.
