Michigan football suffered a bad loss to Indiana on Saturday and afterwards Jim Harbaugh supported his coaches, but should he have?

Michigan football fans are tired of losing and it is becoming harder and harder for Jim Harbaugh fans to defend him. It seems to be even harder after a quote from after their loss to Indiana.

"“They work extremely hard, their schemes are very good and they’re coaching good. Just keep forging ahead, stay after it to make the next step.” Harbaugh said."

If you watched the game against Indiana you probably don’t think any of this is true. The defense looked horrible, especially the corners yet again. The offense looked lackluster at best, and Joe Milton continues to regress and is almost playing like a true freshman.

How could Harbaugh possibly say these things with a straight face and believe it?

The Michigan football faithful blasted him for this quote calling him clueless and it explaining that is just another sign that he needs to go. If he honestly thinks his assistant coaches are doing a good job, then his evaluation of his staff and players isn’t what it needs to be.

But is his quote really that crazy? If you truly sit and think about it, the answer is no. Would you rather him blast his coaches in the presser and throw them under the bus? Would you rather him say Don Brown is an awful coach and it is all his fault? Josh Gattis had a terrible offensive game plan and doesn’t know how to call a game? Are these the things you really want a head coach to say about his coaches?

It may be what you want him to say and what you are all thinking, but is that really the type of coach you want? A coach that will trash his coaches instead of showing loyalty.

Harbaugh shouldn’t call out his assistants in the media

If he would have done that to his coaches, then the fans would have come out and criticized him for not taking responsibility for what is going on. How could you turn on your coaches like that and put it out there to the media.

Players and coaches alike are always attacked by media and fans when they air their grievances in the post game press conferences. They say it needs to stay in house. Do you not think that is what Harbaugh is trying to do? He may be stubborn and different, but he isn’t trying to lose games.

Is it time for a change, probably, and we will have more on that soon, but that still doesn’t mean he needs to turn on his coaches. If Harbaugh does stay, he needs to shake up his staff and he probably will, but again don’t put them on blast in the media.

Remember you can’t have it both ways. You can’t call him crazy for supporting his coaches, but also criticize him if he calls them out. Harbaugh is nothing but a loyal coach and he won’t hang his guys out to dry. He never has and never will.

You may be ready for him to be gone as a coach, but you have to respect that about him. Want to criticize his coaching, you have that right. But don’t call him out for not airing things out to the media.
