Jim Harbaugh, Michigan Football becoming indefensible

There isn’t much to say about Michigan football’s performance against Indiana on Saturday other than I’ve run out of defenses for Jim Harbaugh.

It’s one thing to lose a game. It’s quite another get dominated the way Michigan football did on Saturday against Indiana and it’s becoming a familiar story under Jim Harbaugh.

The Wolverines, who were fresh off what many view as the worst loss of the Harbaugh era, laid another egg Saturday at Indiana, losing to the Hoosiers for the first time since 1987.

After Michigan football seemed to overlook Michigan State last week, the Wolverines weren’t ready to play again and were marred by offside penalties, as well as a secondary that clearly can’t hold up.

Vincent Gray, Gemon Green and everyone not named Daxton Hill were abused by Michael Penix Jr. and Indiana. Penix threw for over 350 yards and has 250 of those in the first half as the Wolverines were powerless to stop an offense for the second straight week.

Down by 17 at halftime, there was some hope in the second as Joe Milton threw touchdown passes to Ronnie Bell and Roman Wilson, on top of a touchdown toss to Cornelius Johnson in the first half.

But when the Wolverines were down by 10, with the ball, Milton threw the first of two second-half interceptions and the deal was done.

Michigan football is in Rich Rod territory

As we all know, Michigan football is now 1-2 for the first time since Rich Rodriguez was the head coach and the schedule doesn’t get any easier.

At this point though, I don’t know if U-M can even hang with Rutgers after rushing for 13 yards on 18 attempts, while allowing well over a 100 to a team ranked last in the Big Ten in rushing yards.

There is no question at this point that Don Brown’s day are numbered. Harbaugh probably will be reluctant to make a move and he will certainly say Brown and the players will “try harder” after the game.

However, fans are sick of that narrative. Michigan football players tried hard under Brady Hoke too and today, to be honest, it reminded me of that last season in 2014.

Michigan didn’t just lose to Indiana, it looked like it didn’t even belong on the same field and that’s definitely not what we thought we were getting with Jim Harbaugh as the head coach.

There are still games left on the schedule, but this team appears to have given in and right now, it’s impossible to defend Jim Harbaugh.
