Michigan Football: Roundtable of predictions for Wolverines vs Indiana
By Nick Popio
Members of the GBMWolverine.com staff make their prognostications accounted for as Michigan football heads to Bloomington for a must win ballgame.
After last week’s debacle has passed Jim Harbaugh and company turn their attention to an upstart Indiana squad who desperately wants to dethrone Michigan football for the first time since 1987. Here are this week’s picks for how it could materialize on Saturday afternoon.
Adam Childs: Michigan 42, Indiana 38
Michigan football needs a bounce back game in the worst way, while Indiana is looking to build off its great start. The Hoosiers have the weapons to attack the Wolverines in Whop Philyor and Ty Fryfogle, but Michael Penix Jr hasn’t been the most accurate.
The Hoosiers are going to attack them deep as that was obviously the Achilles Heel for Michigan last week. If the Wolverines can make the necessary adjustments (which doesn’t seem to always happen) they can slow the Hoosiers offense and win the game.
Michigan should be able to run the ball on them and that will be key. I think they will and this has all the makings of the game where Michigan makes us believe in their offense again. It will be close but Michigan pulls out the win in a shootout.
Jared Dettmer: Michigan 38, Indiana 24
This game was projected to be something of a trap game before the season began, but now the Hoosiers have Michigan football’s full attention. After the Wolverines fell to Michigan State a week ago in unceremonious fashion and Indiana upset Penn State to open the year, these teams are trending in different directions.
However, talent matters in this game. Indiana should be overwhelmed at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball as Michigan will both stop the run and run rampant on the Hoosiers. Michigan gets their season back on track in this one.
Nick Popio: Indiana 31, Michigan 28
Michigan laid an egg against Michigan State and Indiana is hitting their stride right on time. This has all the makings of an Indiana upset, if it can still be called that. Tom Allen finally has the Hoosiers ready to take out Michigan and put Jim Harbaugh in further turmoil.
With the secondary looking the way they did a week ago, Michael Penix should have a field day when attacking Michigan’s beatable corners. Here’s to hoping that I will be wrong in my views of how I see things playing out for the third straight outing.
Chris Peterson: Michigan 31, Indiana 23
This is a do or die game for this Michigan football team if It wants to contend in the Big Ten East this season and it might be the same for head coach Jim Harbaugh, who will really be on the hot seat with a loss to Indiana.
The Hoosiers have proven they can beat good teams at home, but Michigan has also played well with its back against the wall. U-M is still the more talented program and fresh off an embarrassing loss, the Wolverines circle the wagons and win with a physical ground game.
