Michigan Basketball: Ranking the top 10 Wolverines since 2010
By Max S.
#10: Zack Novak
I discussed my list with a few people before writing this article and most people kind of rolled their eyes at this pick. Was Zack Novak one of the ten most talented Michigan basketball players since 2010? Probably not. But other things are factored in besides talent.
You’re not going to find Zack Novak on any top ten list for any notable statistical categories in Michigan basketball history. But fans will never forget the energy and passion that he brought every single minute of every single game.
I will fully admit that Zack Novak’s spot on this list comes more from my heart and less from my head. When Zack Novak was the guy for Michigan basketball, it was right at the time I was starting to fall in love in college basketball and the University of Michigan.
Novak, along with Stu Douglass helped change the entire culture and trajectory of the Michigan basketball program. In the 2011-12 season, those two seniors helped lead the Wolverines to their first Big Ten championship since 1986.
That season paved the way for the monster 2012 recruiting class that included Mitch McGary, Spike Albrecht, Caris Levert, Nik Stauskas, and Glenn Robinson III.
By the time his career was over, Novak finished 1st all time in minutes played in Michigan basketball history and in the top ten in games played. His smooth lefty jumper, fiery style of play, and willingness to do whatever it takes to win will be remembered by Michigan fans for a long time.
