Grading Michigan Football’s offense after win against Gophers
By Adam Childs
The Michigan football team looked great against Minnesota, but how did the offense grade out after their first game of the year?
Michigan football opened its season with an impressive road win against a ranked Minnesota team on Saturday night. A coin flip game, turned into a dominate performance for the Wolverines as they easily took care of the Gophers 49-24.
Outside of Michigan’s first drive which ended in a block punt, the offense looked efficient and didn’t turn the ball over in a game they desperately needed.
Losing to the Gophers would not have hurt their chances at making the Big Ten championship game, but losing the first game of the season with the tough schedule the Wolverines have would have been disastrous.
The defense struggled a bit against the run, but made the big stops when it needed to and set up the offense would some good field position early that they cashed in on. It was about as good of a performance as could have been expected for their first game after such a crazy off season.
It was a great first game and one all Michigan football fans had to be extremely happy with. The Wolverines brought the Little Brown Jug back to Ann Arbor and made a statement during the primetime slot of games.
The Wolverines still have a long way to go and have a rivalry game up next against a reeling Spartans team, so they need to be ready. But before we get to the next game, let’s hand out grades for the offense for the first game of the year.
