The O-line will control the line of scrimmage

Just by looking at the roster, you might think that the offensive line is an area of concern for Michigan football heading into 2020, when in fact, it should be a position of confidence.

The Wolverines were buoyed by the return of right tackle Jalen Mayfield, who has been talked about as a future first-round pick and with Ryan Hayes getting some starts last season, U-M has two experienced and gifted tackles.

On the interior, it’s a similar story. Andrew Stueber was neck-and-neck with Mayfield for the starting right tackle job last year but suffered a knee injury. He’s healthy now and starting inside. Chuck Filiaga and Andrew Vastardis are also experienced veterans coming off strong camps.

Ed Warinner has done a great job developing these guys and when you look at how they measure up, it’s pretty impressive.

While the Wolverines offensive line should be really solid, Minnesota has some question marks on its defensive line and last year, the Gophers weren’t exactly dominant against the run.

One thing we should all expect is some rust from both teams, so how things play out in the trenches is going to matter even more than usual and from a Michigan perspective, when the Wolverines have the ball, they should be able to impose their will.
