Michigan football will open its 2020 season Saturday night at Minnesota and here are five bold predictions for the Wolverines and Gophers.

If you feel like it’s been an eternity since Michigan football‘s new schedule was announced, you aren’t alone. It has felt like forever. But in just one day, the wait will be over.

The 18th-ranked Wolverines will take on No. 21 Minnesota in prime time and College Gameday will be in attendance to create even more hype.

For both programs, it’s a massive game and not just because of what it means in the Big Ten standings. Both are playing for much more, as each tries to be among the elite.

Michigan football has been closer than Minnesota over the years but neither has made a trip to the Big Ten title game under the new format and outside of Michigan’s New Year’s Six games, they haven’t played in major bowls either.

However, the Gophers went 11-2 last season under P.J. Fleck and return their starting quarterback as well as likely first-round pick Rashod Bateman at wide receiver.

The Wolverines went 9-4, but their losses were to Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Alabama, and they also enter 2020 with loads of talent on both sides of the ball.

Certainly, Michigan will miss the likes of Nico Collins and Ambry Thomas in this matchup, but Aidan Hutchinson, Kwity Paye, Jalen Mayfield, Cam McGrone, Chris Evans, Joe Milton and Daxton Hill give U-M more than enough talent to contend in the Big Ten.

Much of that will depend on Milton, as will the result Saturday, so that’s where we begin our predictions for the Gophers and Wolverines.
