Finding a good quarterback is a crucial part of any recruiting class and in 2023, Michigan football is off to a great start with elite QB Dante Moore.

It’s never too early to start recruiting the quarterback position and in the class of 2023, Michigan football made its first offer years ago.

That was to the highly-touted and soon to be highly-rated Dante Moore, a standout at Martin Luther King High School in Detroit. He was offered by Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines in middle school and now, that investment is starting to look really smart.

Last season, as a 6-foot-2 freshman starter, Moore was exceptional, throwing for 2,731 yards and 33 touchdowns. This year he’s picking up where he left and recently Michigan football recruiting reporter for Rivals, EJ Holland, caught up with Moore on his recruitment ($):

"“Michigan is a prestigious school. They have a great offense and a great coaching staff. It’s a great atmosphere up there on campus. They offered me in seventh grade. They had a lot of trust, and I feel blessed that they offered me. I’m just thankful. Coach (Jim) Harbaugh is one of the best coaches to coach the game of football.”"

Early in the 2021 class, Michigan football was able to establish that relationship with J.J. McCarthy and he became the centerpiece of the class. Certainly, the Wolverines would love to do the same with Moore in 2023.

And another thing that could help is that Moore works closely with former Michigan football QB Devin Gardner, who has also worked with Joe Milton.

A number of other programs have offered Moore too such as Arizona State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State and West Virginia, as well as some others.

Right now, Michigan football appears to be the favorite, but since he’s not even finished with his sophomore season of high school, there’s a long, long way to go. Still, U-M is off to a good start.

New 2021 target was to take offical visit to Michigan

In other recruiting news, one recruit who recently was offered by Michigan football, offensive lineman Remington Strickland, told 247 sports ($) he wants to take an official visit.

Strickland is a three-star offensive guard/tackle from the state of Texas. He was offered by the Wolverines last month and they quickly moved near the top of his list. He’s ranked as the No. 768 prospect in the 247 composite and there could still be some evaluation happening.

But Strickland has talked with the coaching staff about taking a visit and here’s what he told 247 sports this week:

"“I definitely want to plan a visit there when the dead period is over. Right now, it would be difficult to get there on the weekends because of our football season.”"

Obviously, if he wants to take an official visit, that won’t happen until January, so that would push his decision into the regular signing period in February.

Michigan will likely be fine with that. Outside of top targets such as Donovan Edwards, Rayshaun Benny, George Rooks and Ceyair Wright, there is room for other scholarships and why we saw an offer go out to Indiana commitment Maurice Freeman, a three-star safety this week.

Next. Charles Woodson's top five games as a Wolveirne. dark

Benny and Edwards have also been holding off to try and take visits, but Edwards wants to enroll early so he will make a decision in December. With Strickland and others, it could be longer.
