Michigan football has picked up a crystal ball for an elite 2022 corner, but in the class of 2021, a top target continues to trend elsewhere.

High school football has been going on throughout the country and that’s a good thing for Michigan football fans because its allowed some of the top recruits a chance to see action.

In addition to getting to watch J.J. McCarthy and top targets like Donovan Edwards, it also gives recruiting reporters a chance to talk to recruits and gain more insight.

And a couple of key crystal balls came in over the weekend that pertain to Michigan football, although not all the news was good news.

For starters, the Wolverines actually just picked up one crystal ball but it’s a significant one as high-ranking 2022 corner Jaeden Gould was given a projection to Michigan by Josh Newkirk of 247 sports who watched Gould play this weekend.

It’s the third crystal ball for the Wolverines with Gould. The others are from Steve Lorenz and Brice March, who are also recruiting analysts for The Michigan Insider. The average level of confidence right now is at a seven.

Gould is ranked as the No. 146 prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he’s the No. 16 corner. 247 sports own rankings have him 113th overall.

While Gould may not be ranked as highly as Will Johnson or Domani Jackson, he would still be a huge get for the Wolverines and they are the leader right now for 6-foot-2 defender.

Here’s what Newkirk wrote about Gould after seeing him this past weekend:

"“He did not shy away from saying Michigan is “very high” right now in his recruitment. Why? Well, having former high school teammate Jordan Morant on campus helps. The two of them talk regularly basis and Morant has given nothing but positive feedback about Michigan. Also, he loves Michigan cornerbacks coach Michael Zordich.”"

Top Michigan target keeps trending elsewhere

The other crystal balls of note that came out on Sunday though, weren’t good news for Michigan as two more recruiting experts are projecting cornerback Ceyair Wright to USC.

Just last week, Wright was talking about how he wanted to take a visit to Michigan, even if it had to be a self-guided visit, so there is definitely still hope, but USC is the smart bet right now.

The Trojans are close to home and by all accounts, they are making a strong push for Wright, although they did just flip a corner from Notre Dame last week.

Mike Zordich has build a solid relationship with Wright and Michigan is definitely in the mix, but unless that visit happens, USC appears to be the team to beat.
