Cornerback

Heading into the season there is one clear starter at cornerback and that’s Vincent Gray who finished with 20 tackles and five passes defensed a year ago.

He saw extended time down the stretch and played extensively against Alabama, where he held up really well. Some have expressed concerns about replacing Ambry Thomas, but Gray is going to be a dude this year, now it’s about determining who plays alongside him.

Two guys who have been pushing for more playing time are DJ Turner and Jalen Perry. Each has received praise this offseason from Don Brown.

Yet, I fully expect true freshmen Andre Seldon and Darion Green-Warren to be in the mix as well. Both were fairly high-ranking four-star recruits. Seldon dominates in the slot and has the kind of quickness you just can’t teach. Green-Warren is bigger and more of a boundary corner.

Depth may still be an issue, but there are plenty of other bodies. Safety Daxton Hill could also see some time in the slot, so it’s another position to watch closely as the season draws near.
