Pass catchers

On Monday, Harbaugh confirmed that Mayfield’s waiver to play this season was approved after he signed with an agent and originally declared for the NFL draft. But he didn’t say anyone else had submitted a waiver and the most notable name absent is Nico Collins.

Collins still could change his mind and pursue the same waiver Mayfield did, but it doesn’t seem very likely at this point. Yet, even without Collins, U-M has a group of talented pass catchers.

Ronnie Bell, who led the team in receptions last year, returns, along with sophomores Giles Jackson, Cornelius Johnson and Mike Sainristil, who each caught at least one touchdown pass last season and contributed as true freshmen.

With those three guys and Bell, the Wolverines have some solid weapons. But, incoming freshmen Roman Wilson and A.J. Henning have also impressed and could make an early impact too.

Another name to watch in terms of pass catchers is Erick All. He caught just one ball for 10 yards last season but he has the ability to split out wide or play n the slot, as well as in-line.

And should Collins not return, he’s been getting mentioned as another big-bodied target who could be more of a focal point in the passing game.

If Collins doesn’t return, Bell and Jackson will likely be the top two guys at receiver, but there will be plenty of chances for Wilson, Johnson, Henning and Sainristil to earn playing time too.
