It was another loaded week of news on the Michigan football recruiting front and here are key thoughts on the past week.

In a new weekly tradition, we are going to take a look at all the biggest things that happened in the week of Michigan football recruiting and break it all down.

Here’s a look at last Sunday’s edition, in what will become a weekly update, summarizing all the news and key information we have learned.

Of course, the biggest news of the week came early, on Tuesday, as three-star tight end Marlin Klein committed to the Wolverines.

Klein is ranked as just the No. 371 prospect according to the 247 composite rankings in 2022, but he’s a kid with tons of upside and he will easily outplay that ranking.

One thing that helps make Michigan football successful on the recruiting trail is its ability to evaluate talent. We have seen that over and over again the past few cycles and in Klein, the Wolverines are showing that again.

Klein was offered by Georgia, Florida State and others, so it’s not like he was a total unknown. However, the Wolverines made him a priority, got him on campus for a dead-period visit and sealed the deal early with a 6-foot-6 pass catcher who has tremendous upside.

But even in 2021, whether it was Markus Allen, who eventually decommitted, Rod Moore or Daymon David, who committed to Oregon, each was offered by Michigan when they ranked outside the top 1,000. Since, each has taken a big leap in the rankings.

So just your weekly reminder not to get caught up in star ratings. They are a frame of reference, yet in terms of evaluating prospects, the U-M staff is more reliable.

At any rate, here’s a look at some other key things to takeaway from this week, starting with priority target in 2021, George Rooks.
