Quarterback

There’s no secret who the starting QB will be for Michigan football on October 24th against Minnesota. Joe Milton won the job which ultimately led to Dylan McCaffrey deciding to opt out with an intent to transfer.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last couple of weeks, you have heard the hype surrounding Milton. He is drawing comparisons to Cam Newton, Vince Young, Josh Allen and so many other notably great quarterbacks.

Offensive Coordinator Josh Gattis certainly did not help to simmer down the hype when he spoke to the media. Here are some of his quotes about Milton from Wednesday.

While I do believe that most of the comparisons and predictions are extremely premature and possibly exaggerated, it does speak volumes to what his coaches and teammates think of his ability.

We all know Milton has an NFL arm. Does he have the accuracy and decision making needed to make him one of the top quarterbacks in college football? We will find out in the coming months.

With the transfer of McCaffrey, RS freshman Cade McNamara should be backing up behind Joe Milton. McNamara was a four-star recruit in the 2019 class who also has high expectations.

There were rumors swirling that he had beat out McCaffrey for the backup role which also influenced the McCaffrey transfer.

Who knows if that’s true but one thing is certain. As the backup QB, you are one injury away from being the guy and McNamara will have to be ready at all times to be the guy this season.
