Michigan Football: Predicting the re-revised 2020 schedule
By Nick Popio
For the second time the Michigan football schedule has been changed and this time it is cemented in place for real.
Similar to the first time the Big Ten revised the docket, the Michigan football team will have to work its way through a rigorous gauntlet.
Road battles at Minnesota, Indiana and of course Ohio State will not be for the faint of heart. Home games with Michigan State, Wisconsin and Penn State will also be more difficult than normal without 110,000 plus involved.
The Minnesota showdown right out of the gate is going to be a rugged one. The Gophers are on the uptick and it will take a full team effort to beat them. Michigan football must keep their high octane offense off the field to do so.
Here’s a game-by-game prediction for the Wolverines revised schedule.
Win @ Minnesota
The Spartans head to the Big House for the second consecutive season and that won’t sit well with them. Mel Tucker has a lot of work to do if he intends to close the gap from last year’s beatdown.
Win vs. Michigan State
Lately Indiana has given the Wolverines all they can handle and more in Bloomington. It more than likely will go down that way again as long as Michigan’s defense makes the necessary stops against a pesky Hoosier attack.
Win @ Indiana
The Badgers are a favorite to represent the Big Ten West every year for a reason and this one is no different. Getting them at home may be the deal breaker for the outcome in this anticipated matchup. Plus revenge will be on the mind for Harbaugh’s bunch.
Win vs. Wisconsin
Going to Piscataway is usually a gimme victory and that shouldn’t change this time. Greg Schiano’s team won’t quit, but he just doesn’t have his horses yet to pull off a massive upset. Give the Scarlet Knights time and they may be up and running like they were in his first tenure.
Win @ Rutgers
The fact that Penn State is coming to the Big House is a blessing. They are loaded with talent and are going to be a handful for any opposition. This will be Michigan’s toughest test besides the Buckeyes on the schedule. Penn State’s last win in Ann Arbor came in 2009 and it might happen again.
Win vs. Penn State
Maryland is a warm-up before the game. The key for Michigan will not to look ahead to the following week. It will be interesting to see how Harbaugh has his club humming in between its two hardest collisions.
Win vs. Maryland
Ohio State may be walking into this December war undefeated. Its going to take an effort that Michigan fans haven’t seen in nine years to get this done in Columbus. Michigan has to prove to the world that this is still a major rivalry, but the Buckeyes are just too much for them
Loss @ Ohio State
Champions week is an intriguing idea that the Big Ten will implement on December 19th.
It potentially leads to a contest with the likes of Iowa, Minnesota for the second time or even Wisconsin again unless it turns out to be somebody different. That ninth duel of the season has a prime shot of being a winnable one though.
