It’s been a busy week on the recruiting trail for Michigan football and here are five thoughts on recent recruiting developments.

On the recruiting trail, it was a week of ups and down or Michigan football. The Wolverines got a surprising decommitment from Markus Allen, as well as a commitment Friday night.

The commitment coming Friday, if you didn’t hear, was from Massachusetts linebacker Tyler Martin out of the 2022 class. He announced his decision on Twitter last night.

While it was obvious that Michigan football was the heavy favorite for Martin, you never know until the decision is made and thanks to the efforts of Don Brown, the Wolverines are getting a 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker, who ranks 10th at his position in the 247 composite rankings.

With some linebackers Michigan recruits, there are questions about whether they will be a linebacker or a viper. But with Martin, a 4-star, there is no such question. He’s an inside linebacker and a really good one.

It’s hard not to be impressed with his instincts in the box. On his highlights, which are obviously not the full story, you don’t see him get blocked much. He just finds the ball, frequently.

And he will be able to do that at Michigan too. Here’s a more in-depth look at Martin’s scouting report too.

His commitment was much-needed momentum for the Wolverines, who lost a member of their 2021 class this week in Allen, who re-opened his recruitment.

That puts the 2021 class back at 20 commits overall, with around five spots to go. So there are some new options at receiver and with another running back, U-M is close to a commitment.

I’ll touch on all that, but first, back to Tyler Martin and the man most responsible for his commitment, which is Don Brown.
