Michigan Football: Wolverines in strong spot with 2022 tight end
Michigan football hosted 2022 tight end recruit Marlin Klein Saturday and it looks like the Wolverines are the leader in his recruitment.
While the NCAA is still in a dead period for recruiting, Michigan football has gotten creative with having recruits visit and this past weekend, tight end Marlin Klein was the latest to do so.
If you don’t know much about Klein, you better get familiar with him because the 6-foot-6 tight end, from Germany, is a legitimate target and one that could easily wind up committed to U-M.
Obviously, Klein wasn’t able to have contact with the coaching staff, but he posted this on his Twitter account about the visit.
Klein is ranked 369th in 2022 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he is also ranked 17th among tight ends. He plays high school ball in Georgia. The Bulldogs and Florida State are the other top programs in the mix. Arizona State and Boston College have also offered.
Yet, Michigan appears to be the leader. U-M has made Klein a priority, contacting him on Sept. 1 and with his visit, Steve Lorenz of the Michigan Insider ($) said he’s close to a crystal ball:
"“Very close to putting in a 247Sports Crystal Ball for 2022 three-star tight end Marlin Klein after checking with some sources after the Rabun Gap (GA) prospect visited Ann Arbor over the weekend.”"
In terms of recruits who could be on commitment watch in 2022, add Klein to the list.
RB commitment could help with 5-star WR
Another high priority target in 2022 is five-star receiver Caleb Buron out of Del Valle, Texas, which is where 2021 running back recruit, Taiverre Dunlap is from.
It feels like Dunlap could be on the verge of committing after a run of crystal ball’s projected him to Michigan football last week. And if he does, Lorenz noted last week it could help “drastically” with Burton, who is the top-ranked wideout in the composite rankings for 2022.
The Wolverines are already putting on the full-court press as Lorenz reported last week ($) that Jim Harbaugh, Josh Gattis, Jay Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore are involved in this recruitment.
We shall see if that effort pays off. If not, Michigan is in very good shape with Kaleb Brown and Tyler Morris, two top-100 wide receivers out of Illinois.
Landing those two would be exciting enough for Michigan fans and the Wolverines are the crystal ball leader with each, but Burton would be over the top.
First, though, we’ll see if Michigan can get Dunlap.
