The comeback

Mercury Hayes had an exciting career with Michigan football but he will always be remembered for the game-winning catch he made on Aug. 26, 1995, against Virginia.

It was the Pigskin Classic and 14th-ranked Michigan was playing host to 17th-ranked Virginia. Yet, the day quickly turned into a nightmare as the Cavaliers opened a 17-0 lead that continued into the fourth quarter thanks an 81-yard touchdown run by Tiki Barber.

True freshman Scott Dreisbach was at quarterback and hope was bleak. But suddenly, in the two-minute offense, Dreisbach found his rhythm and threw two fourth-quarterback touchdowns to get Michigan within striking distance.

With Michigan trailing 17-12 and just four seconds left on the clock, Dreisbach found Mercury Hayes in the end zone for the second time. The amazing grab completed an incredible comeback.
