Michigan Basketball: 3 Reasons Juwan Howard won’t leave for NBA
Reports emerged of NBA interest in Juwan Howard as a head coach but he quickly quashed it and here’s why he won’t be leaving anytime soon.
Michigan basketball fans should have expected the NBA interest in head coach Juwan Howard and some probably did at some point, but so soon?
After just one season in Ann Arbor, NBA teams are reportedly interested in Howard as a head-coaching candidate, which isn’t a big surprise, because he was already interviewed for multiple head-coaching jobs before he came to Michigan.
Not only was Howard a former NBA All-Star but he was an assistant coach for the Miami Heat and Erik Spoelstra, who is recognized as one of the best coaches in the league.
That tutelage and experience helped Howard get the Michigan job and with a couple of new NBA vacancies opening up this week, it’s not shocking that Howard is a hot commodity.
It’s a bummer as a Michigan basketball fan that we couldn’t get through one offseason without Howard getting the Jim Harbaugh treatment. But Howard also handled it well.
Here was his response, which came in about five seconds flat.
Not only is that exactly what every Michigan basketball fan wanted to hear, but it’s also what Howard made sure he told every single recruit out there.
There’s a reason this guy has landed so many top-100 commitments in such a short time as head coach. He gets it and he’s here to stay and these are the three best reasons why.
