Michigan football recruit Donovan Edwards spoke about his decision and what his next steps are in the process.

Donovan Edwards seems sort of frustrated with the recruiting process. At least that’s what it seems like when you see the Michigan football target’s latest interview.

Edwards, who is ranked third among running backs in the 2021 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings, is the No. 2 player in the state of Michigan and 34th overall.

He’s a top priority and a must-land recruit. It’s imperative Michigan football gets him in its 2021 class, no matter how you want to say it.

And right now, things are in a good spot for the Wolverines. Michigan owns all the crystal ball projections that aren’t foggy right now and more than 85 percent of his Futurecast picks.

The only two picks that aren’t for Michigan, when it comes to Edwards, both have him going to Ohio State and the Buckeyes aren’t in the mix.

This recruiting battle seems to be down to Michigan, Oklahoma and Georgia. Those are the two schools Edwards told EJ Holland of Rivals ($) that he wanted to visit in a recent interview.

"“I’m headed to Oklahoma. I’m going back to Georgia. Those two for sure. I wouldn’t take one to Michigan. I would just drive up there and stay the night.”"

That’s if visits open up and if they do, it could be concerning for Michigan. Here’s what Brandon Drumm wrote for OU Insider ($):

"“I spoke to a source that tells me the talk of Edwards working on a visit to OU is legitimate. I can tell you that, according to a source with knowledge, Demarco Murray has a “great” relationship with Edwards. The source added, “(OU) and the Edwards family have had some really great talks,” the source said. “If he was a bit closer, and could have already seen the Sooners campus, he would be committed to OU.”"

Now, I don’t know what to make of that last statement. At any rate, an Edwards visit to Oklahoma would be worrisome, although not the end of the world. Same with Georgia.

But Michigan would get another visit and who knows if another head coach is talking to Edwards every week, because right now, Jim Harbaugh is.

‘I do talk to him once a week. He’s cool people. I rock with Coach Jim,” Edwards said to Holland ($) about coach Harbaugh.

Another interesting thing to note is that Michigan hosted another running back target, Tavierre Dunlap, for a virtual visit Wednesday. Michigan could take two running backs, but Dunlap could also be an insurance policy for Edwards.

However, as much as Edwards wants to take visits, he also indicated to Holland, he has what he needs to make a decision. That makes you think we might not be waiting until December.

"“It’s up to me at this point. I’ve said that with other programs, too. They ask what more they can do for me. It’s nothing at all. I’ve seen what I’ve wanted to see and heard what I’ve wanted to hear from multiple programs. I know the real from the fake. It’s just my decision now.”"

That should make Michigan football fans feel good.

If Edwards has all the information needed to make a decision, then in the end, it feels like the Wolverines will be it. There’s just more to gain and a better fit.

The problem is we don’t know when he will decide. Right now, I’d say the sooner the better and in his interview with Holland, Edwards said of his timeline ($) “I don’t know anymore.”

Maybe if Edwards can’t take visits, he will finally pull the trigger and give his commitment to the Wolverines. Either way, a decision could come sooner than once expected.
