Michigan Football: Which Wolverines will opt for NFL over spring?
Who’s probably gone
One of the worst things about Michigan football’s season getting postponed is that it means some of the top players on the roster won’t return.
There’s not much incentive too unless things are cleared up with the NFL and even so, would someone like Nico Collins risk a season in April when he would have to turn for NFL training camp presumably next summer?
It’s more likely that we won’t ever see him wear No. 1. It was going to be fun to see if he could live up to it. His stock could take a hit, but the size, speed, and talent are there.
Others who are surely done with Michigan football are defensive end Kwity Paye, cornerback Ambry Thomas, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson and tight end Nick Eubanks who had some interest in the NFL before deciding to return.
Hutchinson and Paye would both be hurt in this scenario because a standout 2020 season could have propelled them into the first round of the draft.
But both guys have shown pass-rush skills and both are stout against the run. Paye and Hutchinson also have position versatility, so it’s hard to see either lasting much later than the third round of the draft at worst.
Those are the slam-dunk guys. As far as those that will have to deliberate further, take a look.
