3-star CB/ATH Kamonte Grimes

One of the top targets remaining for Michigan football this recruiting cycle is Kamonte Grimes, who has become essentially the top guy at cornerback.

Certainly, the Wolverines have interest in top-100 corner Ceyair Wright, but that’s more of a longshot. Grimes, a three-star athlete from Florida, is being recruited as a receiver by most schools, however, U-M wants the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder as a defensive back/viper.

Grimes is ranked 515th overall in the 247 composite and is a three-star prospect via Rivals, which has him Futurecasted to Michigan with one of the picks from EJ Holland, the U-M expert.

Speaking of Holland, he dropped some more interesting news ($) on Grimes Friday night, saying that Grimes could actually make a decision this weekend.

Here’s part of what Holland wrote:

"“Palmetto Ridge athlete Kamonte Grimes is gearing up to make a decision. In fact, the three-star prospect could commit to the school of his choice as soon as this weekend. He for sure wants to announce before the end of August. The three schools still in the running for Grimes are Michigan, Nebraska and Kentucky.”"

Holland said Nebraska is making a push and the Huskers have wanted Grimes as a receiver. Michigan has sold Grimes on a Jabrill Peppers sort of role, and it’s possible that whoever sells their vision best will win this recruitment.

There hasn’t been much reporting on Grimes in the past few weeks, but it’s not a shock that it’s come down to Michigan and Nebraska. I’d trust Holland if he says Michigan is the pick, but keep an eye on the crystal balls this weekend to see if something starts trending.
