The Michigan football season is expected to be less than a month away and here are three reasons to be optimistic.

In terms of the 2020 Michigan football season actually happening, the Big Ten’s announcement this week was probably a good thing.

Nothing is a sure thing as of right now, not even the game against Ohio State, which was moved from its customary slot at the end of the season to Oct. 24.

That’s the game that really needs to be played because it won’t feel like a Michigan football season without it.

Whether the season starts on time, ends on time, or is interrupted at any point is anyone’s guess. But with tight protocols and possibly no fans, it looks like there’s a good chance we will have some sort of football season in 2020.

As far as the Wolverines 10-game schedule is concerned, there are challenges. The trip to Ohio State is chief among them. Home games against Wisconsin and Penn State will also be challenging, as will a trip to Minnesota.

And with the tit-for-tat that emerged between Jim Harbaugh and Ryan Day this week, it feels like the middle of football season. Harbaugh accused Day and the Buckeyes of breaking rules, by having coaches on the field with players.

Day responded that Harbaugh should worry about his own players. Then it was reported he later told his team that they were going to “Hang a 100” on the team up North.

While Michigan probably won’t beat Ohio State this season, I don’t see the Buckeyes hanging 100 on the Wolverines, although I hope that brings that level of overconfidence into “The Game.”

No matter what, this should be an interesting season, but one day after fall camp opened in Ann Arbor, here are three legitimate reasons to optimism in 2020.
