Michigan Basketball: 2020 Depth chart prediction for Wolverines
No one remains a question mark for the 2020 NBA draft, therefore, it’s time to predict the Michigan basketball depth chart based on the recently released roster.
Jon Teske and Zavier Simpson played their final games for Michigan basketball in early 2020. They never had the opportunity to contend, once again, for a national title, but clearly they gave it everything they had for a new coach in a new system.
A lot of adversity, a lot of uncertainty.
There were the highs and lows of the season. Being one of only two teams to chop down Gonzaga is an accomplishment in itself, but the conference losing streak is nothing to brag about, and neither is their finish in conference play. The Big Ten bottlenecked at the top and U-M couldn’t break into a position of leadership.
Had the Wolverines finished out in Indianapolis, they might have improved their position. We will never know, however, and the seniors will never have a chance to do it again.
In addition to losing two starters, Michigan once again witnessed attrition. David DeJulius saw the writing on the wall and got out of dodge. Head coach Juwan Howard was turning the team in a different direction and David fit the mold of Howard’s predecessor.
David isn’t the only transfer from the Beilein era. Colin Castleton, the thin but capable big man, fell behind in the race to replace Teske and fled south to gator country. Cole Bajema, a talented shooting wing and native of Washington, was stolen from the west coast, and as soon as he hit the market, the Huskies swallowed him up.
The cupboard isn’t bare, thankfully. The staff reached into the transfer pool and left with two guys that will instantly make an impact for the Wolverines, and they found four recruits to fill the rest of the open scholarships.
Through all of that movement, it’s clear Juwan isn’t going to waste time. He’s going to put his stamp on Michigan basketball as quickly as possible.
This is what his rotation will look like in year two.
