Michigan Football: 3-star WR Andrel Anthony now projected to U-M
Michigan football is about to break the hearts of Michigan State fans, as the Wolverines look poised to win Andrel Anthony’s recruitment.
We all know that things can change quickly in the world of recruiting and for Michigan football and Michigan State, things have shifted dramatically with a top in-state target.
The recruit in question is three-star wide receiver Andrel Anthony, who happens to be from East Lansing. He’s 6-foot-2, 175 pounds and is ranked as the 529th-overall player in the 2021 class, as well as the No. 85 wideout in the 247 sports composite rankings.
At one time, Anthony was a top target for the Wolverines but after some other wide receiver commitments, the interest appeared to cool. Yet, when Xavier Worthy committed a couple of weeks ago, that for some reason seemed to generate some interest.
Players have been communicating with Anthony and interacting with him on social media. Anthony has also been speaking with the Michigan football staff and took a dead-period visit over the weekend, taking a tour of the campus on his own.

You figured if he was visiting Ann Arbor, there had to be some legitimate interest and now, it appears there is more than interest.
Steve Wiltfong and Allen Trieu, two of the top recruiting experts for 247 sports, worked together to change their crystal ball picks in favor of the Wolverines and announced it in this post ($).
They each placed their crystal ball with a confidence level of eight out of 10.
Literally, minutes after, Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider, put in a crystal ball. He also rated his confidence at an eight. Tom Loy, a Notre Dame analyst for 247 sports, also projects Anthony to Michigan.
Markus Allen, who is currently one of Michigan’s commitments in the 2021 class, also seemed to catch word of the trend as he tweeted this a few hours earlier.

Anthony is a dynamic receiver who, like Worthy, can be moved all over the field and is dynamic after the catch. For the Wolverines, this will round out their receiver group and also hit Michigan State with another difficult recruiting loss.
It was said earlier on the Michigan Insider Podcast, that Miami’s de-commitment class would rank higher than Michigan State’s commitments do right now and the loss of Anthony won’t help.
Anthony is expected to make his decision Friday and if he does choose the Wolverines, that will likely take them out of the running for four-star wideout Jayden Thomas.
Thomas has been talking about a decision later in the process anyway. The prospect from Georgia has also garnered interest from Notre Dame. Anthony would make it 21 commitments in 2021 and that should leave the Wolverines with around 4-5 spots left.
Obviously, nothing is a sure thing. The Spartans had 10 crystal ball projections earlier today. But when a flip in predictions like this happens so close to a commitment, there’s usually a reason for it and all I can say is that it’s a great day to be a Michigan Wolverine.
