Will the star players live up to the hype?

Don’t let anyone tell you Michigan football isn’t talented enough to compete with the top programs in college football. That just simply isn’t true.

If you look at the blue-chip ratio, the percentage of four and five-star recruits out of your signees, or if you look at the number of players selected in the NFL draft since 2015, Michigan is easily one among the top 10-12 programs in terms of pure talent.

There simply is no arguing that. Outside of Ohio State, it produces more NFL talent than any other Big Ten program. But will some skill guys ever do early in the draft again?

On offense, a skill position player hasn’t gone in the first two rounds since Devin Funchess. Nico Collins could possibly change that with a breakout season in 2020. Zach Charbonnet is a guy I have my eye on as a potential early-round pick and believe he’s poised for a 1,000-yard season, even in just 10 games.

On defense, Aidan Hutchinson, Kwity Paye and Cam McGrone all have NFL potential. But can someone like Hutchinson emerge and get 10 sacks? Truly putting himself on the map? Or what about Daxton Hill? Will he play like a 5-star recruit?

The Wolverines have all the talent needed to succeed. Certainly, not the talent of Ohio State, but if all these guys can finally reach their potential, U-M can get darn close.
