Michigan football fans got more good news today from recruiting experts who joined others in projecting Rayshaun Benny to the Wolverines.

Judging by his top list, Rayshaun Benny still has a lot of schools involved in his recruitment, but judging on the predictions of experts, Michigan football is the clear leader.

The Wolverines were one of the eight schools that made Benny’s top list and probably the most prominent in the Big Ten, as Ohio State didn’t make it. Michigan State and Penn State did and they might be the biggest threats, but Iowa and OSU seemed to be in better positions until recently.

In terms of crystal ball projections, there were already four predictions in for Benny to Michigan and following his top list, Allen Trieu and Steve Wiltfong both placed crystal balls for the Wolverines at confidence ratings of seven.

Trieu noted ($) the fact that Michigan wants him on defense and there’s where Benny has wanted to play all along. It’s significant but it’s not really new information.

Benny has been trending to the Wolverines throughout this month, getting crystal balls from four experts at 247 sports, as well as EJ Holland, along with seven other at Rivals. So it’s easy to feel good about this one right now as a Michigan football fan.

But still, there are reasons to think more conservatively. For one, a top-8 list is still a pretty expanded list at this point in the cycle. That tells me he wants to be able to take his official visits if he’s allowed and it’s possible that could change things.

I’ll say this about Benny: If things keep going the way that they are, which probably means no official visits anytime soon, you get the sense a decision could be made earlier. Just like with Donovan Edwards.

With both Benny and Edwards, the sooner a decision is made, the better it is for the Wolverines. That’s the case right now, but that could be different down the road.

Still, when all the top recruiting experts for Michigan and in the area are leaning towards the Wolverines, it’s hard not to feel good. But we might still have to wait a bit or an actual commitment.
