Michigan Football: 3 Plausible outcomes at QB for Wolverines in 2020
Michigan football could have two or maybe even three different quarterbacks capable of starting in 2020. Here are the most plausible scenarios.
At this point, we don’t know if there is going to be a Michigan football season in 2020 or not. We do know that the Wolverines began team workouts Friday.
But other programs aren’t in the same position. Both Michigan State and Rutgers have had their entire teams quarantined. Although a decision should come soon, Rivals reported Sunday ($) that there is a chance the Big Ten season is delayed a few weeks.
That’s not a big surprise, especially because the Big Ten was already going to do a Big Ten only schedule. It’s expected that a 10th game will be added.
But whenever games are played, if they are in 2020, Michigan football will have to answer the biggest question hanging over the program all offseason: What will happen at quarterback?
This competition between Dylan McCaffrey, Joe Milton and Cade McNamara is legitimate. I don’t think anything should be made of the past depth charts.
Both Milton and McCaffrey have gotten some game action under their belt and to be expected, there were ups and downs. That goes with any young quarterback.
The problem is that neither has gotten to take all the reps they were due to get this spring. They may not in the fall either. But there is optimism within the program and even college football expert Phil Steele said he expects the quarterback play to improve in 2020.
What exactly that means is anyone’s guess. As well as who actually comes out the starter. I’ve been on record often that both quarterbacks will play, at least early on, and with that in mind, here are three plausible scenarios for the upcoming season at quarterback.
