Michigan football has put together one of the top-ranked recruiting classes in the country but here are five guys who will outplay their ranking.

The Michigan football program might still have some work to do on its 2021 recruiting class, but there are already 20 commitments.

11 of those players are ranked as four-star recruits or higher in the 247 sports composite rankings, which take all rankings into account. But a number of the Wolverines three-star recruits are quite talented too.

In the grand scheme of things, players who are a high-ranking three star aren’t far behind a player in the low-range of the four-star rankings. Even so, there are some three-star prospects and some of the four-star variety too I expect to outplay their recruiting ranking.

So of the five guys, not all of them are three stars. In fact, two four-star recruits are on here too and that’s where we will begin, with four-star tight end Louis Hansen.

4-star tight end Louis Hansen (No. 252, 247 sports composite):

The reason Hansen makes this list is simply that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Rivals has him listed as a top-100 prospect and a top-five tight end, which is legit. He’s nearly 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds and ran a laser-timed 40 in 4.7 seconds ($).

Some Michigan fans are still holding out hope for Thomas Fidone, a top-100 tight end in the composite rankings. He’s a dynamic player and obviously, I’d love for the Wolverines to get him, but Hansen is better than people think.

He has great size, he’s got speed and he can move all over the formation. 247 sports has him as a three-star recruit but I’d expect his ranking to jump there.

Whether it does or not, Hansen is going to be a play like a top-100 recruit at Michigan and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he was drafted down the road. Remember when U-M used to get a tight end drafted every year? It’d be nice to do that again.
