Key Michigan football target Xavier Worthy announces today, plus more on the Wolverines recruitment of a four-star running back.

When Desean Jackson was a high school recruit, he nearly ended up playing for Michigan football and now, a number of years later, another dynamic wideout, Xavier Worthy has a similar choice to make.

Worthy, a four-star recruit and top-100 player overall in 2021 according to 247 sports internal rankings, is making his decision at 4 PM EST. Recently, Oregon was viewed as the favorite for Worthy, but he pushed back his commitment and since then, a flood of crystal ball predictions has come in for Michigan football.

Worthy, who runs the 100-meter dash in 10.5 is an elite talent. Think Giles Jackson but 6-foot-1. That’s where the comparisons to DJax come in, because Worthy has some size and is a blazer.

Even though Rivals has him as a three-star prospect right now, that should change and EJ Holland, the top Michigan recruiting expert for Rivals, reiterated Thursday night that he feels confident ($) in his pick of Worthy to Michigan, despite a really hard push from Alabama and Georgia.

While Christian Dixon and Markus Allen, the two wideouts currently committed in 2021, are solid players, Worthy is in a class by himself and he’d represent another really good get at the position, sort of like A.J. Henning a year ago, although Henning too, is shorter.

Stay tuned for the commitment today, we will have a breakdown and reaction to Worthy’s final decision, which I also expect to be for the Wolverines.

Michigan football still in the mix for 4-star RB

If you have followed this blog much for Michigan recruiting news, you might know that I have an affinity for Texas four-star running back Tavierre Dunlap and Thursday, the Wolverines made the cut for his final eight.

Along with Michigan, the other contenders are Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Arizona State, Washington, USC, Utah and Virginia Tech. It’s notable that Texas isn’t on the list and looking at it, if the Wolverines really want to make a push, it seems like they have a good shot at landing him.

Whether or not Michigan will do that probably depends on numbers. Obviously, the decision of Donovan Edwards looms large at the running back position, but Dunlap, a powerful, downhill runner could be a great fit alongside the dynamic, all-purpose Edwards. He averaged about 10 yards a carry and is 6-foot, nearly 200 pounds.

Yet, a commitment from Worthy would shrink the scholarship count even further but Dunlap could still be a take, even along with Edwards, as along as Michigan sticks to three receivers. Only taking five offensive lineman could be a possibility too, but keep an eye on Dunlap.
