Michigan basketball’s 2021 class is shaping up, which means we can begin to make depth chart predictions as long as a few guesses are made with additional commitments.

With summer came Michigan basketball‘s first member of the 2021 class. A Chicago area native named Isaiah Barnes. It was June 24th, and the announcement was somewhat unexpected. The only indication came from Josh Gershon of 247 sports, who placed a crystal ball in U-M’s favor moments beforehand.

As other teams formed their future squads with two or three members of their class, the Wolverines had only one lonely recruit. That is, until Monday, two weeks later, when Minnesota native Will Tschetter joined Barnes to jump the class from outside the top 20 to 13th overall.

And they’re not done. Should Chaundee Brown be eligible for the 2020 season, Michigan basketball will have three open scholarships for whoever is interested.

In order for there to be a depth chart prediction, those spots must be filled with likely candidates. These prospects may not have any crystal balls or FutureCast indicating their intention to attend U-M, but there won’t be any stretches of the truth either. No high school player listed will be some pipe dream for the Wolverines.

The predicted commitments will be kids that the Wolverines are targeting heavily, and will either have ties or interest with the program.

Attrition will not be accounted for in this way-too-early depth chart.
