Juwan Howard didn’t find Will Tschetter on the 247 composite top 100, but he knows he should be there, and now Tschetter will be a member of the Michigan basketball team.

The tea leaves were falling into place. Everything was right for a commitment from Will Tschetter to Michigan basketball. The crystal balls and the interviews all led to the assumption that Will would make an announcement soon.

And finally, he did, Monday morning.

Will Tschetter is a Wolverine.

Who is Will Tschetter?

Will is a 6-foot-8 power forward from Stewartville, MN, where he plays for Stewartsville Senior High School, and he’s also a member of the AAU team, the Minnesota Heat.

For his high school, Will averaged 34.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while also shooting 45% from beyond the arc.

He’s a beast on offense, and a problem on defense and the Wolverines were the only team to truly recognize it and prioritize him. At least, they were the only high major program to do it.

“I think Coach Howard is an amazing coach, a good guy. He’s super fun to talk to,” Tschetter told Rivals. “I like college basketball in general. Michigan has a pretty good rep when it comes to being a well-respected program.

“I feel like it’s kind of the big thing with Minnesota kids where everyone obviously wants them to stay at the hometown school, but I’m open to leaving the state, for sure. I really like Michigan’s coaching staff. It’s a bunch of great basketball minds and good people. I like everything they have to offer. They have great academics, great facilities, good academic support. Just kind of the whole thing is pretty attractive when you look at it.”

Will went from no stars to three and will likely end up closer to the five-star mark. 247 sports is all over the place when you compare internal ranking to their composite. Their company rankings have Will as a three-star, the No. 46 PF, and No. 2 from MN. The composite, however, ranks Will at No 146 overall, the 28th best PF, and No. 2 in-state.

Without AAU ball, and with Will being loyal to his local AAU club instead of participating in a nationally sponsored AAU team, it was hard to earn recognition, but eventually, Tschetter will rise the ranks even further.

Who’s next?

The next addition to the 2021 class will probably be someone in-state by the name of Kobe Bufkin, who just earned a FutureCast to Michigan basketball. Kobe is an ultra-talented SG from Grand Rapids Christian and is in the top 70 for his cycle.

There are other potential additions, but it’s too early to tell at this point. Juwan has been working hard with several five-stars and some four-stars, although, only time will tell if Howard can land one or two more recruits to fill up the scholarship allotment.
