With the signing of Trey Burke by the Dallas Mavericks, there are now six former Michigan basketball players taking part in the NBA restart.

Trey Burke was one of the greatest Michigan basketball players of all time. He was also recently named to the Big Ten Network’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

While a vote on the Player of the Decade in the Big Ten is still waiting, Burke is the obvious choice after winning National Player of the Year honors in 2013 and leading Michigan basketball to the national championship game.

Yet, in more important news, for Burke anyway, the former Wolverines point guard will be taking part in the 2020 NBA restart, as he signed a free-agent contract with the Dallas Mavericks Thursday. MLive confirmed the signing with Burke’s father.

Burke, a former NBA lottery pick, played for Dallas last season but was then traded to the New York Knicks. He started this season out with the 76ers. After averaging 11.8 points per game in the last 30-plus games of the 2018-19 season with the Knicks, Trey managed just 5.9 ppg with the Sixers, although he got just over 13 minutes a game. He also shot 42 percent from 3-point range.

Now, Burke will be joining Tim Hardaway Jr., another former Wolverine on the Mavericks, who are part of the 22-team restart. The Mavs are 40-27 and are the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. Hardaway Jr., who has averaged an underrated 13.4 points per game in his career, is averaging 15.8 this season for Dallas in 50 starts and 63 games.

And since Dallas is headed to the postseason, with a shot to even improve its seeding if you want to follow former Michigan basketball players, it might be your best shot, especially with two former teammates reunited again.

For a look at the rest of the Wolverines playing in the NBA restart. Here’s the other five.
