Michigan basketball found its way onto Chet Holmgren’s top seven college destinations. Could he be the next Wolverine superstar?

Chet Holmgren doesn’t have to check the prospect ranking boards to bolster his confidence, he does so on the court by challenging the best basketball players in the country, not just fellow high school pals. Chet once made Steph Curry look silly. Chet Holmgren, a sophomore in high school, dished out an insane, Steph Curry trademarked, crossover to Steph Curry and caught him off guard, finishing at the basket with a dunk. That same Chet Holmgren dropped his top seven schools and a Michigan basketball jersey found its way on the rack.

In case you didn’t believe the Steph Curry story:

Who is Chet Holmgren?

According to 247 sports, Chet is second in the nation behind Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 1 center and top player from MN. Holmgren might be listed as a center, but even as a seven footer, Chet sees himself in the Kevin Durant category of hoop stars. He’s a position-less player that can bring the ball down the court, create his own shot at all three levels, and defend the rim as of his life depended on it.

Holmgren has been referred to as a Unicorn. Which perfectly encapsulates what Chet brings to the court. A uniqueness that is unmatched. Check out his 247 sports evaluation:

"Extremely unique player who is unlike almost any American prospect in recent years. Good size, long arms and plus athleticism but very narrow frame. Extremely physically immature and may take a while to put on strength due to narrow shoulders/base. Despite lack of strength, very tough kid with impressive mental makeup. Has range to perimeter with jumper, good body control and high feel. Outstanding rim protector and rebounder. Level 10 motor. Hard to be overly critical outside of lack of strength/narrow frame. Projects as lottery pick of strength/narrow frame.”"

The Wolverines are battling Minnesota, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Georgetown, Memphis, and UNC for the services of Holmgren.

Chet will also receive offers to play in the NBA’s G League as he moves close to graduation. The choice between a half a million dollars or a free education can be challenging for some 18-year-olds and a there is a clear option for others. Chet seems to be leaning toward the college route, although, it’s still early in his recruiting.

Another possibility is the NBA. While there is a one-and-done rule in effect this season, there is talk about repealing that, which would create a path for Holmgren to go pro immediately without the G League step.

At the end of the day, the superstar Chet Holmgren narrowed his top schools to seven and Michigan basketball is still in the running.
