Michigan football has a couple of anchors on the line that are rated near the top of the NCAA, and they have an experienced DT, but what about the other spot?
Michigan football is in a world of hurt if it can’t shore up the line to plug the massive holes that revealed themselves to Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor, Penn State’s Rickey Slade, Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins, and Alabama’s Najee Harris.
Except for the subtraction of grad transfer Mike Danna, this is the same line that didn’t bend but broke several times against the behemoths that are Big Ten lineman. They weren’t ready for what was about to hit them and although most of the time the defensive eventually recovered, by then the game was already over.
The Wolverines require a star that wasn’t ready to burst onto the scene a season ago, for whatever reason. There is plenty of talent to pick from even though Michael Dwumfour is headed for greener pastures. This offseason, the big man headed back home to New Jersey to compete for a spot on their roster.
Will it be a veteran? Or will it be one of the two impressive sophomores that already earned their letter as a freshman?
Without spring ball, and potentially very little time in the summer to prepare, it’s going to come down to reviewing the tape and a sprinkle of trust for a decision, and even then the starter from day one might not end up leading the defense at the end of the year.
