Josh Gattis has been adding playmakers to the offense for Michigan football over the past two years on the recruiting trail and Kaleb Brown could be the best.

Michigan football and Notre Dame have had plenty of hard-fought recruiting battles over the years and another one is already shaping up for 2022 wide receiver/athlete Kaleb Brown.

It’s interesting because Brown is labeled as a wide receiver for his position, yet when you watch highlights of the dynamic 5-foot-11 athlete, you see him mostly at running back.

But it doesn’t take much time watching Brown to realize he would be dynamic at just about any position that got the football into his hands.

In terms of the 2022 class, he’s ranked 35th overall, fifth among wide receivers and No. 1 in the state of Illinois, where the Wolverines have done pretty well recently, landing Trevor Keegan in 2019, A.J. Henning in 2020 and J.J. McCarthy so far in 2021, along with linebacker Tyler McLaurin.

Speaking of Henning, Brown will draw obvious comparisons to the 5-foot-10 receiver who will be a freshman this coming season for Michigan football.

Like Henning, Brown isn’t going to be a big, dominant receiver on the outside. He’s not going to be Nico Collins. However, he could be a really interesting blend of Giles Jackson and Henning, which would be absolutely terrifying for anyone trying to defend Brown. Notre Dame was the top competitor for Henning too.

With Brown being listed in the 170-pound range, you can understand why he wouldn’t be viewed as a running back at the next level, but I guarantee that just like Jackson and probably like Henning next season, Brown will see a few carries if be becomes a Wolverine.

That’s a big if though, because Brown already has lot of suitors and while Michigan is in solid position according to Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider ($), who said he was thinking about placing a crystal ball for the Wolverines, Notre Dame appears to be right there too via Tom Loy.

Obviously, it’s early in the 2022 cycle but this is the time to establish with some of these younger prospects. Michigan and Notre Dame have both done that and it seems to have made it a two-horse race for the time being.

Both sides may have reason to feel good, but it’s hard not to smile imagining what Gattis could do with Brown, Henning and Jackson all on the same team.
