Michigan gets a 1,000-yard receiver and a 1,000-yard rusher

Michigan football hasn’t had a running back/receiver combo reach 1,000 yards since Mike Hart and Mario Manningham did it back in 2007.

Yet, in 2020, the Wolverines should have a good chance of ending that streak with a pair of talented runners and two very talented wide receivers.

Zach Charbonnet and Hassan Haskins both burst onto the scene at running back a year ago. Charbonnet ran for 726 yards, while Haskins ran for 622. They each averaged around five yards per attempt and combined for 15 touchdowns.

This season, they should share the running load again with Chris Evans and freshman Blake Corum, however, both Haskins and Charbonnet should have even better numbers than a year ago and while each should get at least 800 yards or so, one will breakthrough for 1,000.

Of course, all the mouths to feed could hurt, which could happen at receiver too, where Nico Collins and Ronnie Bell each looked poised for bigger seasons in 2020. Bell led the team with 748 receiving yards and Collins wasn’t far behind with 729.

Those numbers should only improve next season and with Bell’s ability to dominate in the slot and get yards after the catch, he’s a good candidate to reach 1,000, as is Collins, who seems due for a monster season.
