Michigan Football: Top 5 NFL Draft prospects for Wolverines in 2021
By Ryan Kraus
Michigan football continues to produce NFL talent and here are five Wolverines who have the best chance to hear their names called early in 2021.
Michigan football had a very successful 2020 NFL draft with 10 players get drafted. Jim Harbaugh and the coaching staff are putting the players in a position to get to the next level. The Wolverines 10 draft picks tie Ohio State for second-most trailing only LSU who saw 14 players get their name called.
Since 2016, when Jim Harbaugh became the coach at Michigan, the Wolverines have had 31 players selected. The 2020 and 2017 drafts had 10 and 11 picks respectively.
One statistic that stands out among all the draft talk for the Wolverines is the lack of skill position players taken at the top of the draft. The last Michigan football skill player to be drafted in the first round was Braylon Edwards in 2005.
Over the next two or three drafts that should change. With Gattis in charge of the offense, he should continue to develop the skill positions. “Speed in Space” has only just started at Michigan.
When every NFL draft ends, everyone turns their attention to the next one. There is a certain allure that the draft has and it keeps everyone talking year round, so let’s take a look at the top 5 draft prospects that the Wolverines have to offer in 2021.
